EMORY THOMAS JR. is publisher of the Puget Sound Business Journal and the new technology news site. Thomas served as editor of the Business Journal for two years before becoming publisher in April 2006.

During his varied career, Thomas has served as a business journalist in both the print and online arenas, and as a publishing entrepreneur. He first moved to Seattle in 1996, when he was recruited from The Wall Street Journal to join MSNBC at its launch. As MSNBC.com rose to become the web’s top rated news site, Thomas produced frequent online reports and did regular on-air segments with CNBC. He left MSNBC in 1999, co-founding two small publishing companies and serving as vice president of Business.com, later acquired by publishing giant RH Donnelly for $360 million. Immediately prior to joining the Business Journal, Thomas was an editor at MSN Money, Microsoft’s leading financial web site. Early in his career, Thomas joined the Atlanta Business Chronicle, where he twice won the prestigious national Gerald Loeb Award for Distinguished Business and Financial Journalism.

Today, he lives in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle with his wife, Laura, and their two children. He has been active for years in youth sports coaching and serves on numerous community boards, including the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, ArtsFund and Junior Achievement.

JOHN COOK is co-founder and executive editor of the technology news site. He has been covering the technology beat for nearly a decade, writing about startups, entrepreneurs and venture capital, most recently serving as a reporter/blogger at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. In 2000, he launched the P-I’s Venture Capital Notebook — an online resource for those in the startup and venture capital communities. Since 1998, Cook has covered hundreds of entrepreneurial ventures — from Avenue A to Zillow.com. Before joining the P-I in 1999, he covered business and technology for the Eastside Journal in Bellevue.

A native of Wooster, Ohio, Cook started his journalism career in high school compiling obituary and election information for The Akron Beacon Journal. He graduated from Gettysburg College with a degree in history, earning Phi Beta Kappa recognition and Academic All-American honors in soccer.

Cook’s interests include backpacking, bicycling, running and watching English Premier League soccer. He lives in Seattle with his wife Holly and dog Henry.

ERIC ENGLEMAN is a senior technology staff writer for the Puget Sound Business Journal. He reports on the technology industry for the Business Journal and for the technology news site.

Engleman has been with the Business Journal since 2003. Before covering technology for the newspaper, he reported on banking and finance and other industries. Engleman has won numerous awards for the Business Journal, including an enterprise reporting award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers for a 2005 story about a member of the Washington National Guard returning to his civilian job as an insurance executive after a tour of duty in Iraq. Before joining the Business Journal, Engleman worked in international news as a correspondent for Associated Press in Moscow, Russia, from 2002 to 2003. He reported on contract assignment for National Public Radio in Afghanistan and Russia following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He has also worked as a producer and writer for CNN International, and as a radio reporter in Russia.

Engleman grew up in Fairfax, Virginia, and graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. He lives in Seattle with his family.

TODD BISHOP is co-founder and managing editor of the technology news site. He is responsible for editorial strategy, quality and innovation, and he works with the executive editor to develop editorial features.

Bishop has covered Microsoft and the technology industry for more than five years in Seattle, most recently as a reporter for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He launched his blog about Microsoft in September 2003, building it into a widely used resource for tracking the software giant. In February 2008, Bishop was the first to publish internal Microsoft e-mails in which company executives privately criticized the Windows Vista operating system, even as they publicly praised it. His coverage of Bill Gates’ departure from daily life at the company was published by papers including the New York Post. His blog has received honors including a 2008 Best in Business Award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.

Bishop covered commercial real estate at the Puget Sound Business Journal from 2000 to 2002. He grew up in Orland, Calif., and got his start in journalism covering sports for his high-school paper. He graduated from California State University, Chico, with a double-major in journalism and business administration. He lives in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood.
